Het Pestkapelleke van Millegem (plague chapel)

Up to the beginning of the eighteenth century, there were regular outbreaks of the plague in our region. The plague chapel of Millegem dates from the turn of that century. People came to pray there to be spared by contagious diseases.

The chapel has been restored several times through the years. The white stone in the chapel has the words 'In honour of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and his and our Immaculate Mother Mary, Hortensia Verbiest.
1883'
