Het Moldersbok

The themed garden the 'Moldersbok' is in the grounds of the old municipal garden (nearly 1 acre) next to the Nete and the Molderdijk.

The garden was developed in accordance with a Hobbit garden from the Lord of the Rings trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien. The Hobbits named parts of the Shire after important local families. For us this would be the Molder family, which has lived near the river and had an estate with two large family seats. The stretches of land next to the river were called 'Moeren' or 'Bokken'. This led to the name 'Moldersbok'.
Multifunctional
This is a multifunctional park for all ages and available for small events.

Walking

The park offers great walking on the paths, the lawn or the meadows. A number of sitting and resting points have been built in to the route. Visitors looking for a dry or shady spot can head for the pergola.

Playground and meeting place for children and youngsters

De Hobbit homes of Old Toby and Ubak are in an earthen hillside. Children will love their fairy tale appeal. They have low doors and windows and children are welcome to walk through and over the Hobbit homes. During events or story telling sessions the homes offer shelter. Children will enjoy playing hide and seek in amongst the greenery. The seats and wooden play equipment are attracting families to the Moldersbok.

Listening corner

The listening corner is a tiered area. It has been designed to be a fun play corner, but also offers seating during carillon concerts, for instance. The sloping ends of the tier provide access for wheelchair users or less mobile visitors. The lawn and listening corner offer a venue for small performances to a small audience.

Natural management and development

Low-maintenance and sustainable planting. A hedge, trees, shrubs, flowers and grass ensure that the Moldersbok is full of greenery.
